Kinetic Rain got destroyed

So apparently, some lady decidedly be brave enough to climb over the railings at Changi Airport Terminal 1 and destroy a kinetic installation, Kinetic Rain. It was installed in July 2012 as part of the terminal’s refurbishment. Over the years, it has become a welcoming sight and almost everyone had good comments on the installation.

Back to the lady… I saw the news on Facebook through Willy’s page. My first thought was, “WHAT THE HECK IS SHE DOING? WHY IS SHE DOING THIS?!” Through her senseless behaviour, a good installation got damaged and probably be out of commission until the management of the Airport starts repairing it. Additionally, it seems that she endangered her own safety by walking on the thin metal strips that supports the safety net below the installation just to get a raindrop.

Here is the initial image that Willy shared. Video update is below the image.

As I have noted in my comments to my friends, we do not know who is this lady. Netizens have been pointing fingers at other nationalities. But for all we know, it could be a spoilt brat from any where. As for why no security stopped her? She could have climbed the railings before it was too late for anyone to stop her. As much as there are SAF and police personnel patrolling the airport, as much as one can be prepared for any scenarios, it just takes one incident to undo every effort. No one would also want to risk his life going on the safety net that was probably designed to catch loose raindrops, preventing injuries to the people using the travelators below, not knowing whether the net is rated for humans to pounce on each other. Until the investigation into the matter is completed and reported via the media, all we can do is to speculate.

Nonetheless, t’is a sad day for open art installation.
