This year, there were more than 150 volunteers who turned up to show support at the recording of the My Singapore Project’s theme song – Moments of Love. Amongst them were Mr Teo Ser Luck, Minister of State, Ministry of Trade and Industry and Mayor, North East District; Ms Penny Low, Member of Parliament; presenting charity sponsor, CapitaLand Hope Foundation, as well as local personality Dr Jia Jia and local artiste Nathan Hartono.

Summer 2012

Summer 2012

Summer is here! Since yesterday 3PM actually. For once, I am sitting out here at Starbucks instead of cooping in the research lab, studying, and plotting world domination through coding, enjoying the atmosphere~

OK… That’s the extent of how slack I will be throughout the summer. Actually, I will be darn busy. There is no life for a SMU student.

Summer plans:

  • Clear up leftover work from semester: website for CCA and WSG work.
  • Internship. Initially, I was hesitant to take up one for the semester because of the nest point. But then again, if I am offered an opportunity to intern at a startup, why not? It will be an interesting experience.
  • FYP preparation. This is one and only module that I am preparing for even before the official start of the module later in Term 1 AY13.
  • CCAs and related activities.
  • RTs. Yeah, I failed my IPT programme.

On the bright side, I will have my after-sunset life back, at least for the next 3 months or so.

[Advertorial] Nokia The Rookie

I seldom watch television, sans the shows I watch on my laptop. So it is rare to catch The Celebrity Apprentice on Channel 5 on the Sunday that just past. Ok, what am i talking about! Wrong focus! Opps.

Capture2The Nokia The Rookie emulates the rules set in The Apprentice. The shows is currently aired online on this website. 12 contestants  were selected from a huge pool of applicants around April this year. All twelve contestants will walk away with the Nokia E72 (which you have not noticed, is being featured prominently in the show) that they are using in the show. So all are winners already! Yay! They are vying for the title of The Rookie. The Rookie stands the chance of interning at the company that they have chosen from one of the four following companies: Nokia, Microsoft, Standard Chartered and Zouk. The ultimate Intern will be crowned at a reveal party at Zouk after a series of challenges.

Capture1  If you are wondering why watch the Rookie, there is a reason to. Viewers are invited to predicted the winner of this series. 2 lucky winners will walk away with Nokia E72! So follow the series closely and choose carefully!

Capture Personally, I feel that Sueann should be the ultimate winner for being the most outspoken and pro-active contestant on the series I see so far.

668BEE3968C3E3B999496F918B22C Currently, the series is at Episode 4. In this episode, the contestants are to create print ad for XinMSN, the latest portal by Microsoft. “seen this, seen that, xin it all” is the guiding principle for the creation of a suitable print ad. The contestants are re-shuffled so as to balance the numbers in each team. The members of the winning team walk away with Microsoft XBox 360 each, while the losing team will face an elimination of two members. Who will be out of the race? Catch it on The Rookie.

Disclaimer: Although I do watch The Rookie, and loving it, this blog post is an advertorial (in case you miss out the advertorial tag in my title) sponsored by Nokia.

Helping Chile & Haiti

Helping Chile & Haiti

Before the dust can settle on Haiti’s earthquake disaster , Mother Nature unleashed her fury yet again. This time, it is an 8.8 magnitude on the Richter Scale. With death toll in the hundreds from the Chile quake, we are fortunate enough not to have major tsunamis striking the countries that are in the Pacific Ocean region.

Do your part in the humanitarian efforts. One way is to donate money to the American Red Cross society’s International Response Fund:

You can help the victims of countless crises, like the recent earthquakes in Chile and Haiti, around the world each year by making a financial gift to the American Red Cross International Response Fund, which will provide immediate relief and long-term support through supplies, technical assistance and other support to help those in need. The American Red Cross honors donor intent. If you wish to designate your donation to a specific disaster, please do so at the time of your donation by mailing your donation with the designation to the American Red Cross, P.O. Box 37243, Washington, D.C. 20013 or to your local American Red Cross chapter. Donations to the International Response Fund can be made by phone at 1-800-REDCROSS or 1-800-257-7575 (Spanish) or online at has thrown in an incentive for all donors through American Red Cross. It is giving away free anti-thief software for Windows platform within 24 hours upon receiving your receipt of the donation. Please proceed to the website for more details.

Note: I have no relations with BAK2u, except for receiving a free copy of the software due to donation to the Red Cross for Haiti. I believe in doing charity and having the free copy is just an unexpected benefit to it. This is a free advertorial with just one specific goal in mind: to raise awareness to the need for donations to both countries by all means.
