A few weeks ago, I received Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Cover for review. The keyboard is meant for iPad, and yet I readily accepted it since I had just acquired a loaned iPad unit from my FYP sponsor for development purpose anyway.
The Ultrathin Keyboard is connects via Bluetooth to the iPad and promises six-month battery life. When I took out the unit, I did not bother with charging for the keyboard and it last just fine till the end of the review period.
The aluminium cover matches that of the back of the iPad. When attached, it became a rather heavy tablet with keyboard unit.
I am however, unable to flip the keyboard to the back of the iPad as the magnetic attachment would detach from the iPad.
It serves as an stand for the iPad as well. The insertion slot has another magnetic strip which allows the iPad to be attached to the keyboard with a snap. The slot also allows the iPad some degrees of back-forth movement, which is great as it allows the entire keyboard to be rotated with a twist motion on the iPad itself without damaging the iPad or the keyboard.
The size of the keyboard does not really allow for pro-longed typing as it is rather uncomfortable to squeeze the pair of hands into the 24.2cm wide keyboard. However, given sufficient time, the hands can adapt to the keyboard and spacious keys. And it is sufficient enough for casual surfing of the Internet, tweeting and posting status updates on Facebook.
Overall, I would recommend this keyboard for those who really need one for their iPads on the go for various reasons. Otherwise, the iOS keyboard is sufficient.
Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard is going at a recommended retail price of $139 and is available at all major IT outlets.
