I was surfing Youtube (as usual) when I encountered the following video. It was on my favourites once. When I viewed it again, I was once again reminded the reason why I like the video…

And now, this:

Treasure Trove

Treasure Trove

I was home from a long night outside yeasterday. I opened the door and saw my elder brother staring at his new pair of black coloired shoes. He looked up and asked me, “Do you have a brush?” He was referring to the shoe brush that I used to brush my boots. I tried recalling if I had put a brush at home, but I failed. So I told him that I have to check. I went to the box filled with my army stuff (its a partial collection because most of the stuff at home are excess). I dugged through the box, but I found no brush. So I am getting him one when I come back from camp.

Instead I found stuff which are useful to new recruits, like my younger brother. I dugged up excess tapes, bootlaces, a roll of comms cord, and plenty of odds and ends… I stared at the items wondering what to do with them, then I decided to dump them all on my younger brother when he returns home from his initial confinement period in army.

No more waste of space or items collecting dust at home. Yeah!

And oh, I was in a pretty foul mood when I came back home. I understand what you got to do, but the mood is just a natural reaction from being flown a kite… Anyway, moods pass away fast for me…

Britain Got Talent. Does Singapore have?

Britain Got Talent. Does Singapore have?

Recently on Youtube, there are videos of 2 singers on the reality show, Britain Got Talent that are generating millions of views. And these videos are only 3 weeks or so old.Thess 2 singers are shining in the videos like stars. Drawing parallel to Singapore, do we have such creative talents? I doubt so. Shows like Singapore Idol, the Superstar series have yet to generate stars of eqivalent standings. Where is Taufik, Slyvester and the rest now? The only few of note are Candice and Kelly Poon. The latter for wrong reasons. Enough of talk and let’s view the 2 videos. For copyright reasons, the embed links are not working. Instead I will leave the links below.

Stripping Weapon

Stripping Weapon

As a NS(F), we are trained in weaponry. An ordinary soldier like me learns how to strip weapons with hands. More advanced stripping includes stripping weapons blindfolded. However, these soldiers take the cake. They are stripping Machine Guns with their feet. Watch the feat!

Jon just introduced me to a tool to generate graphical representation of the world and he showed me a video on how it came about. After watching the video, both of us came to the conclusion that the tool is an exceptionally helpful aid in any levels of education. In secondary school, it can be used by Geography teachers to teach on population. In junior college, it can be used by GP teachers, to generate figures and data for students, so that the students can write better essays on poverty and Africa. At university level… Oh well, watch the video.

清明节

清明节

Just recently, I took a cab down from Boon Lay MRT to my camp because I was about to be late. Like most taxi drivers, this one liked to talk too. The topic was on Chinese traditional festivals and their origins. It was lucky that I went to a school that emphasised on Chinese education in a English dominated society. It was in the school I learnt most of this knowledge.

As we passed the Chinese tombs, he asked, “You know what is 清明节 (Qing Ming Jie)?”

“Yeah. For people to pray to their ancestors loh.”

“But you know the origins of this day?”
